“Left Side! Strong Side!” I can hear those words ringing in my ear after watching Remember the Titansone of my favorite Denzel Washington movies of all time.

Lots of our clients think that success in marketing is more subjective and creative than it is analytical or logical in nature, but that is simply not true.

Successful marketing campaigns should be developed to meet concrete objectives. No horsing around here. And like it or not, it is the left-side of your brain that is going to formulate logical steps and do the internal analysis for marketing activity that actually makes sense.

Sure, you have the best creative branding on the planet. But if it is not presented in a way that makes sense for your overall objective; you are not going reach your marketing goals.

Are you wondering how to start leading with your left-brain, even when you are a right-brain personality? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Don’t think about creating.
This can be excruciating for some.  But find a 24-48 hours reprieve from doing any creative activities for your business.
  • Set three marketing goals.
  • Develop at least five tasks around completing each goal.
For example,  if a marketing goal is to distribute 20 business cards per week. List five events and attend them to give out business cards.
  • Track your goals.
Purchase a notebook and label it “Marketing”. Once you establish goals,  and set tasks, start writing tracking outcomes. Do this by writing down what happened after each completed task.

Did you attend an event and give out 40 or 5 business cards instead of 20? Writing down the concrete results of each marketing tactic engages your brain to analyze, which is a left brain activity.

Can you see how valuable it is to take a “Left-Side, Strong Side!”  approach to mastering your marketing output? Leading with your Left-Brain, gives a solid foundation for your right-side activities to stand on.

I don’t know about you, but here’s to leading with your left! And making smart marketing choices that will lead you to make more money faster in the end.
